課程說明

Our phonics scheme is split into two sections: Kindergarten and Primary school. The entire scheme teaches similar content taking the children through the British ‘systematic synthetic phonics’ scheme as taught by law in British primary schools.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten children pick up whole language quickest. As these classes are purely in English, we teach the children classroom etiquette in English and they learn some basic English from the teacher. In all kindergarten English lessons, we practice writing the letters and holding a pen. It always makes us proud when we watch them move from scribbling all over the page to writing their first letter!

We also teach them many different songs to help their listening skills, for example ‘A Is for Apple’ and ‘Old MacDonald Had a Farm’ where they learn vocabulary effectively.

Kindergarten is split into two sections. The youngest children learn to differentiate sounds and understand how to pronounce them. The older children learn how each group of letters forms a sound and how to put these sounds together to blend or segment a word.

幼兒園分為兩個部分。 最小的孩子學會區分聲音並理解如何發音。 大一點的孩子學習每組字母如何形成語音，以及如何將這些聲音組合在一起以混合或分割單詞。

Primary grade 1 & 2

Primary children learn the full phonics scheme from level 2 to level 5, together with many phonics stories and games. Whilst grade 1 starts the children with the basic sounds of s – a – t – p – i – n, the final grade 2 lessons include phonics verbs such as untie, unwell and undo and months of the year.

We also provide the children with regular books and resources on moodle, where parents can support the children by reading together and practicing the lessons together.

Assessment

Every level has progress tests, and at the end of the course, we assess their progress by using the British ‘DFES’ (Department for Education and Skills) phonics exam materials.

Next steps

When the children have completed grade 2, the phonics and vocabulary provides them the foundations for the Cambridge ‘starter’ scheme.
